Fourth grade Accelerated Math students recently competed in the Metric Robot Challenge! Students had to create a maze out of 2 meters of tape that started and ended in the same place, had four turns, and no straightaway longer that 14 cm. Next, they had to code a robot, either a Sphere or a Dash, through their maze. Cod- ing, which is a language of science, had to be done using metric units. The students had to convert measurements to get their robots to go the correct distance. They also had to determine the measurement of the angles they included in their mazes through trial and error. The students had a fantastic time applying metric units to coding and robots.
