The school’s curriculum follows that set forth by the Catholic Diocese of Orlando and the Florida Department of Education’s Sunshine State standards. The curriculum is solidly based in skills and competencies with a strong emphasis on the arts and humanities. Daily Religion instruction is required of all students, and Spanish is part of the core curriculum. Integrated throughout all content instruction and explicitly taught as a core content area are the teachings of the Catholic Faith, the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Critical Race Theory is not included in any of those documents and is not part of the instructional standards taught in any Diocese of Orlando Catholic school. Middle school students have a mandatory core curriculum but are also offered a wide variety of creative arts, technology, and athletic electives which enable the students to explore new subjects, to learn new skills, and to experience new activities which broaden their development. Examples of these programs include graphic design, chorus, drama, sports, and dance. Spanish is considered part of the core curriculum and is taught from kindergarten through eighth grade.

Math Ability Grouping
Another outstanding feature of our school is our commitment to math ability grouping. Our math classes in grades three through eight are grouped by ability. Students’ standardized test scores, a placement test, and prior performance in math classes are used to place the students in ability groups. These homogenous groups allow every student to move at an appropriate pace with acceleration available for the very strong math students and extra re-enforcement possible for students needing the extra assistance. Middle school gifted students follow a course of study which allows them to complete high school algebra prior to eighth-grade graduation.

Technology
Annunciation Catholic Academy is committed to the integration of technology throughout the educational process. All grade levels utilize computers on a daily basis as part of their basic instruction. Each classroom has a minimum of five networked computers with Internet access, an interactive whiteboard, projector, television, and an overhead sound system. Additionally, sets of classroom iPads are utilized by elementary students. iPads are 1:1 in middle school.

Teacher Certifications
To maintain high academic standards of personal instruction, teaching assistants are provided for all grades. All faculty and staff are Florida certified and demonstrate a love for children and a passion for teaching. More than half of our teachers hold a master’s degree.
